ECS Tuning Intercooler & Charge Pipes

Heat kills performance. Today we will upgrade my 2018 Audi S4 (B9 3.0L V6 TFSI) with a shiny new Front Mount Intercooler from ECS Tuning. Intercoolers are essentially heat exchangers for compressed air generated by a turbo or supercharger. Our S4s are turbocharged from the factory and make lots of heat. Combined with tunes, hybrid turbo upgrades and full frame builds the amount of heat created can be astounding. The factory FMIC was just too small to deal with these heat levels, especially in hot climates.

Audi S4 Active Exhaust Rattle Fix

Many B9 S4s are experiencing an annoying exhaust rattle related to the active exhaust system. Some S4s, like mine, even throw fault codes including P0477, P0475, and P049F showing there is a problem with the valves. This is often caused by a weak or broken spring inside the exhaust door control unit. Interestingly Dodge Charger and Challenger models have the same Küster brand actuators flaps/valves inside their exhaust too. Facing the same issues a newer spring has been made available by Mopar that eliminates the rattle.

034 Motorsport P34 Intake Kit

Today our 2018 Audi S4 gets its first performance modification. We will be installing the 034 Motorsport P34 cold air intake kit and getting rid of the stock air box. The premise is cooler charge air, more noise and better performance. The stock airbox works hard to silence the turbo to the point that it's very hard to hear. With the 034 kit the sound is a huge upgrade. We're able to hear the turbo flutter and spool under idle revs. When driving the turbo spool and whine is excellent under load. It sounds amazing and everyone who rides in the car loves it. We will be doing more modifications to this S4 and performance testing it!

The B9 Audi S4 is an easy car to service when it comes to the engine filter. It shouldn't take more than a few minutes to swap yours with hand tools. The carbon air filter on the other hand was a bit of a pain just due to the cramped conditions. Overall give yourself at least 20 minutes for a first time swap of both filters. Once you are familiar with the process you'll be doing both in minutes.
