2007 F250 New Wheels, Speedo Correction & Seat Belt Chime Defeat

The old power joke is now officially known as "King Tut" and today it got a set of new shoes. I stopped by the shop and picked up a set of 2019 F250 wheels with Michelin AT/2 tires. This means they're now 1" over the original size and I need to re-write the "As-Built" data. I'm going to use Ford IDS dealer software to perform the reprogramming work to correct the speedometer.

I also tried to disable the seatbelt chime, but found there was no accessible module in IDS to program that. Maybe I'm missing something, but I decided to just use the built-in facility to deactivate the chime. The instructions were pretty elaborate and it took me a few tries. You're locking and unlocking the seatbelt and pushing various buttons to do this.

Warning! It is incredibly dangerous to drive without a seatbelt. The only reason I'm doing this is for convenience when moving the truck around the shop or backing it up to a trailer. You should never, ever, EVER, drive this truck on a public road without your setbelt!

For the seatbelt chime defat I found two sets of instructions. The first set is what worked for me. Maybe they both work, I don't know, but only the first one successfully took. You have to pace yourself so that it registers. Maybe with the right tempo the second method would have worked too, who knows.

Method #1

  1. Ensure parking brake is set. Gearshift is in park, neutral for manual trans. Ignition in OFF position. All doors closed. Driver unbuckled. Headlights OFF.
  2. Turn Ignition switch to ON position, but do not START.
  3. Take your time to buckle and unbuckle the driver's seat belt 9x, ending unbuckled. Must be done within 60 seconds. Don't go too fast or it won't work. Count a few mississippis between clicks.
  4. The safety belt warning light should light for 3 seconds.
  5. Within 10 seconds of the light at buckle then unbuckle the driver's seat belt. Again don't go too fast.
  6. As confirmation the belt light should flash 4x per second for 3 seconds.

Method #2

  1. Ensure parking brake is set. Gearshift is in park, neutral for manual trans. Ignition in OFF position. All doors closed. Driver unbuckled. Headlights OFF.
  2. Turn Ignition switch to ON position, but do not START.
  3. Wait for the seat belt warning light to go out, 1-2 minutes.
  4. Buckle then unbuckle driver's seat belt 3x, ending unbuckled.
  5. Turn the headlamps ON then OFF.
  6. Within 7 seconds buckle then unbuckle the driver seat belt.
  7. Confirm it worked, belt light should flash 4x per second for 3 seconds.
